HISTORICAL/TIME TRAVEL:  Ariel is a strong, independent young woman who works for an insurance company. She’s investigating a stolen family heirloom when she’s hurled back in time to the eighteenth century where she finds herself square in the middle of a clan war.  Caden MacKay is a highlander from the eighteenth century, whose clan is at war with the Sutherlands, and he doesn’t trust Ariel at all, simply because of her last name. Once he gets to know her, though, he starts to feel emotions that he never thought himself capable of feeling for a Sutherland woman.

At the same time, Caden is busy trying to stop his brother from marrying a woman of the Sutherland clan. Caden brings Ariel along, in an effort to uncover some family secrets…And as dark secrets are revealed and vows are broken, Caden and Ariel fall in love.

“Highland Yearning” is the second book in the Mackay Saga, but it can be read as a standalone. The story is told from the POV of two characters: Caden Mackay and Ariel Sutherland. The story is typical highlander time travel romance, and the plot isn’t very original. However, the author did a good job describing the characters and making them appear realistic. The writing was decent, and the story was very entertaining.
