Historical

A trusted and respected knight, Kenric Fairfax has never understood the deep hatred his mother seems to hold for him. As a second son, he has always done his best to honor his family name and support his spoiled older brother.  Little does Kenric know that the dark secret of his birth is the very reason he will never be accepted.  Tired of living with the hatred, Kenric flees to the north of England. While in service there, he is charged with escorting Avelyn Le Cler home from court for a visit.

As they journey together, Avelyn and Kenric’s feelings for each other grow.  Along the way, however, Avelyn discovers the secret of Kenric’s birth and knows it could change his life dramatically.  The problem is how to tell him in a way that he will believe, for she has no proof. If he does not accept her story, it will destroy their budding relationship, and she will lose the hope of them ever finding the happiness that her heart promises.

What a sweet and enjoyable love story!  The author does a wonderful job of creating the feelings, mores and lives of the characters and the time.  At times, the wording feels a bit stilted due to the more formal feel of the language. There are also small holes in the story, such as Kenric never apologizing for his horrid behavior toward Avelyn, that do not sit right with a reader.  Nevertheless, it is a lovely romance that mirrors even the best fairytales of old!
