Winter's Awakening: The Metahumans Emerge (Winter's Saga #1)

Dr. Margo Pullman went to work for “The Institute” to find a cure for Autism. When she learns that the CEO is using babies and young children as lab rats for a serum to create super humans she snaps. Stealing the three surviving children away in the night, she takes them into hiding and raises them on a secluded ranch. Twelve years later Meg, Alik, and Evan are thriving, stronger, faster, and smarter than the average human but clueless as to the truth. When Margo is taken, they must team up and fight back.  Setting their sights on “The Institute” they plan to stage a rescue and get their mother back, no matter what.

An excellent YA  Sci-Fi type adventure reminiscent of “Maximum Ride” without the wings and love triangle!   “Winter’s Awakening” has three great metahuman MC’s each with their own abilities and strengths that border on too powerful while still managing to keep them very human in their sibling interactions. The interplay between the three combine with the introduction of Cole, the very human love interest for Meg. The story does involve a lot of info-dumping, as it is the first in a completed saga.  However, it is engaging despite that, and readers will undoubtedly look forward to the next book in the series, “Winter’s Storm: Retribution”.
