Genre:
Young Adult

The Earth has completely flooded, leaving only a small island for farming, and City, a floating town built from metal and plastic from the Time Before. When Cosimo arrives at Doctor Marchmont’s home Libby knows the boy brings only trouble.  He is seeking a procedure that will allow him to breathe underwater and find plastic and metals in the crumbling wreckage of the cities below the water, Her fears about Cosimo are realized when her father is killed and Libby is forced to flee. Stranded in the middle of the ocean with the wastes blocking their only escape, can Cosimo and Libby learn to trust one another or will the people of the City and Reamers both be destroyed by the rising tides?

A futuristic tale set in a time when the oceans have swallowed almost every bit of land, “Rising Tides” focuses on the efforts of a small group of people to explore the world once more beyond the piles of waste. Both Libby and Cosimo are characters with not only depth but seem to jump off the page as living people. Reminiscent of “City of Ember” this is not a dystopian per se, but rather an adventure with some minor mystery as Cosimo and Libby attempt to discover who killed Libby’s father. The pace is smooth and readers will find themselves sucked into the story and rooting for the both Libby and Cosimo as they uncover the truth and reinvent a few things. Readers will eagerly await the next book!
