Readers may find the story a little confusing at times, as this series continues from another series and the story switches from one kingdom to another. When readers become caught up in the events taking place they realize that they are missing something which is probably due to the previous books. Despite this and the cliffhanger ending, the author has created a story that draws readers in with a magical and adventurous atmosphere, which projects the feelings of danger and excitement throughout. The world and its differences are brought to rousing life, so readers can enjoy the story even if they have not read the previous books and it certainly makes readers curious about those missed books.
