Sequoia National Park has a disturbing problem with bone-poachers. After one ranger is shot, former FBI agent Sable Chisholm is given the job of park ranger.  Sable is adjusting to her ‘new normal’ after a brain injury left her without a fear mechanism. Her personality change didn’t endear her to other agents, putting Sable’s career in jeopardy. This job may be her one and only hope.

Rishima Reynolds is worried about her boyfriend, Parker Collins. He never showed up for his creative writing class. She hasn’t heard from him since he left for a remote cabin to concentrate on writing his book. The cabin has no phone and no cell service.

She has a lot of planning to do and the last thing she wants is be dragged along to a ghoul-themed beauty pageant, where she sees her nemesis Harmony Kane. The competition ends in murder when the winner is found dead. Harmony is accused of the murder and begs Kaley to help her.
