Genre:
Historical

Henrietta Maybury is of age to marry. Her sisters have married well, and it is expected that she will do the same. One night at the theater, Henrietta trips while chasing a little puppy, and she is caught by Captain Sydney Cromarty. Captain Cromarty is a spy for the crown, whose cover is a smuggler. It does not take Henrietta long to fall for him, but he is not exactly a marriageable option. Little does anyone know, he is also the heir to an Earldom. However, he does not want to give up the life he loves. Other family members conspire to prevent Cromarty from becoming the Earl, which also causes danger for Henrietta. When both Cromarty and Henrietta risk their hearts, they also risk their lives.

This book is undoubtedly packed with suspense and adventure. The suspenseful plot and engaging characters just make the pace absolutely ideal. Henrietta is a force to be reckoned with who isn’t afraid of a little adventure. She is quite the match for Cromarty, and their chemistry is undeniable. One of the most delightful aspects of the novel is the relationship between Henrietta and her best friend, Matthew. It is not only refreshing to read about the passionate love between Henrietta and Cromarty but also the loyal friendship between her and Matthew. The themes of love and friendship ring true, but many will also enjoy the themes of forgiveness and letting go of the past. Once readers put this book down, they will immediately want to order the other two books in the series so the adventure never ends.
