So desperate to gain land, Sir Roark agrees to marry Lady Alyss. Unbeknownst to him, she is stubborn and determined to hold onto her family’s land for as long as she can. As they spend more time together, Roark realizes that Alyss is a more intriguing woman than he initially thought. He also notices that his feelings for her are deepening and he must deal with them. When an enemy threatens, they must band together in order to defeat them. What they don't realize, is that their feelings for one another become the most important thing in their life. Will they end up happily ever after? Or will their enemy win?

As medieval romances go, this book has a variety of interesting characters. The two main characters are immediately in conflict with one another which adds to the tension. The plot moves at an even pace. There is a slight cliché in the storyline of a woman being forced into a marriage she doesn't want. The descriptions and settings are well written and the writer pulls readers right into the action and holds them there until the end. However, the writing style and passion in the romance scenes will keep the reader enchanted. This is a perfect book to sit out in the spring sun and enjoy in an afternoon. Barbara Bettis will definitely pique interest in her other books.
