HISTORICAL:  A new king sits on the throne in England, but there are those who would rather see someone else in power. Rumors spread that the Catholic Church is behind this planned coup. Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of the Executioner Knights and it is his mission to find the papal assassins and bring them to justice by any means necessary. Lady Andressa du Bose is an heiress cheated out of her inheritance by her aunt. Having spent several years living in a convent, she is angry at the world. When she meets Maxton, she is eager to see everything with new eyes and new hope. What she does not realize is that she has given Maxton the key to completing his mission, along with the key to her heart.

Ms. Le Veque has created an immersive and delicious chemistry between characters in this historical romance! There is a lot of build up in this novel to the bigger drama. Ms. Le Veque does a great job layering the plot with the interactions of Maxton and Andressa. There are moments where the story drags because there are so many details shared. However, the ending ties everything together, as well as provides a satisfying conclusion.

Dene Woods has a pleasant and soothing narrative voice. He does a great job keeping the momentum of the novel moving forward during the long descriptions, and provides plenty of emotion and passion in every character that makes an appearance. Each has their own distinct voice and personality. His performance and voice is a perfect fit for this story!

This is the perfect read for anyone who loves rich historical settings and unique plots. It is also great for anyone who loves a slow burn romance that ends up in a hot inferno!
