Why Hallmark Movies Speak To Us

If you’re a consumer of romance, you most likely know about the Hallmark Channel’s amazing Christmas movie lineup. This year, they’re releasing a whopping 40 new movies for the 2019 holiday season.
As a writer of this type of romance—the clean, wholesome, everyone gets their happily-ever-after story amidst a small-town backdrop—paying attention to what Hallmark is doing in their empire is worth it.
Because of what I’ve seen them do in the past two years, my next 15 releases will be Christmas novels. And my last 5 have been as well. The success of Hallmark in consumable media is obvious, so I’ve taken their lead and started building my own brand in the clean and wholesome Christmas entertainment industry—just with romance novels instead of movies.
It’s small-town, Christmas, clean and wholesome romance year-round! Between their channels, Hallmark makes roughly half a billion dollars every holiday season on their Christmas movies, and they’ve made over 200 films for their empire since 2008. Millions of viewers tune in from October to December, and obviously beyond, as Hallmark has been showing a Christmas romance movie every Friday night since February of this year.
And they’re not the only ones cashing in on sweet, clean, wholesome

romances. While not necessarily holiday-themed, Netflix has exclusive sweet romance movies on their streaming service, with more coming.
So why does this type of romance appeal to so many  readers, writers and human beings?
