What To Do AFTER You Hit Publish

I often think that anything I have to say about writing, publishing, and marketing should come with the disclaimer *results not typical, individual results will vary* I am by no means an expert - please don’t tell my kids that, I don’t want to disillusion them. Many of you already know the story of my “accidental journey” into writing and publishing, if not, refer to bio at the end of this article.** I have learned a lot since hitting that little publish button in December 2011—more than I ever thought I would. I now have two editors, a cover artist on speed dial, a street team, and countless dedicated readers. My books are sold around the world in digital format, paperback, and audio. And, that first little book, has just been translated into German. To date, I’ve sold more than 250,000 copies of my books. Not too shabby for someone who didn’t know what the hell she was doing. Even though the beginning of my journey was accidental, the rest of it has been a learning process. I’ve made mistakes along the way and I’m not afraid to own up to them, neither am I afraid to learn from them. One thing that I have learned is that writing the book is the easy part. It’s everything else that makes my head hurt. Many times I’ve screamed “Just let me write the damned book and to hell with everything else!” But then I remember I am the boss. So, I pour a little Gentleman Jack into my coffee cup, thank God for all my blessings, and push forward.
