Rising Star Spotlight: Tamra Lassiter

Lassiter

Writing wasn’t something I ever saw myself doing as a career. I had written a few short stories for fun when I was in high school and college, but that was the end of that. I was working full-time and raising two young children. Writing wasn’t on my radar at all.My kids went to stay with my parents for a week in the summer of 2009. My husband and I stayed home and enjoyed a kid-free house. About a day into our staycation, I had part of a story stuck in my head. It was the same part of a story that just kept repeating and repeating. It was so annoying! This was a new phenomenon for me, typically, that activity was reserved for grocery and to-do lists.  I learned years before that once I wrote down whatever was in my head, it would disappear and leave me free to think about something else. So, with that logic in mind, I sat down at my computer and typed out what ended up being the first chapter of my first book. The next day, the same thing happened, and I typed out chapter two. When my husband came home from work that day, I told him, “I think I’m writing a book.” I know I was just as surprised as he was!
