Tanen, Counsel Leader of the Stiyaha, is on a mission to right a wrong he feels responsible for and return a traitor to his king. However, he’s no warrior and consequently is seriously injured during his quest, leaving him no choice but to seek refuge in a human’s shed. Sheri, a nurse who has been deeply hurt by her dead ex-husband, Ram, and afraid to trust again, feels the need to nurse Tanan back to health when she finds him lying injured in her shed. When their close proximity makes them aware of the desire igniting between them, complications arise. Not only are shifter and human alliances unthinkable, but Sheri’s ex-husband has returned in the body of another man.  

This paranormal romance takes off running from the first page and doesn’t stop until the very end. Although this is the third book in the series, it stands alone, but a better understanding of the secondary characters would be had by reading the series in order. The plot jumps around as chapter narration is switched among several of the characters, which causes the pace to stutter somewhat. Also, the protagonists’ instantaneous love is unrealistic, especially since they are from different species and wary of each other. However, the entertaining plot and engaging characters keep the interest going and the pages turning. Filled with drama, betrayal, danger, passion, and love, this intriguing book keeps the reader on the edge of their seat until the last word is read.
