Karma (Silke Butters #1)

Cynthia
Vespia
Genre:
Paranormal

New York supermodel Silke Butters hasn't a care in the world, until she receives a call from her adopted brother Joe that changes her life forever.  The news of her father's death has Silke leaving the Big Apple and going home — intending to bury her father and settle his affairs.  This creates more questions than it answers, however, and the more Silke finds out about her father's mysterious life and his company, the more danger she is in.  With the discovery of a secret terrorist organization and her own budding superpowers, she invents an alter ego with which to fight The Sin Squad.  All of humanity hangs in the balance.

Readers who  love superhero movies will enjoy this one! Author Cynthia Vespia takes her time building up the action, which doesn't really get going until the middle of the story.  Although this raises the tension, it can be frustrating for readers attempting to figure out Silke's powers. She seems superficial at first, but as the book progresses her character develops and she becomes a strong heroine (and superhero) in the end. Readers will definitely get aggravated with Joe and his relationship with Cleo and Silke. He seems like a smart guy, but never figures out exactly what is going on or that he is being played. Readers will love Maki; even though she is a minor character, she is definitely a stabilizing force for everyone. "Karma", with its superhero themes and "good triumphing over evil" storyline will definitely please readers who love comic books.
