To Free a Phantom (Spirit Chasers Book 3)

Carrie
Pulkinen
Genre:
Paranormal

Ten years after graduation, Erica Miller is moving back to her hometown to take over a theater after her former drama teacher kills herself and her husband in a murder-suicide.  Physically scarred from a childhood house fire and emotionally scarred from her ex-boyfriend, Erica is in need of some support which she finds in two places.  First, she finds Gage Dawson, her best friend from high school, who has gone from the nerdy boy next door to sexy IT guru.  Older and bolder, Gage is ready to admit the feelings he hid from Erica in the past.  Second, she locates a mirror that houses the spirit of Colette DeVeau who served as a mentor to her and her drama teacher in high school.  Unfortunately, Colette isn’t as harmless as she appears and is determined to have Erica all to herself.

This is the third book in the Spirit Chasers series yet stands solidly alone.  Erica and Gage pick up quickly where they left off in high school which moves the romance storyline ahead quickly.  This allows Ms. Pulkinen to take her time with the paranormal plot line and build in lots of suspense.  The characters are vibrant, although perhaps a bit too overdone in some respects as Erica is a bit too emotionally beat up and Gage is overly nice, which can become irritating. Overall, the combination of great paranormal suspense and steamy romance will have the reader looking to read not only the first two books in the series, but any that follow as well.
