Council of Souls (Fated Eternals #2)

Jack Hammond and Leah Winters have escaped Death and his council by the skin of their teeth. They quickly learn that while Leah is now immortal, that immortality has come with a price neither of them expected. While Artagan attempts to guide Leah through her new responsibilities to the Council of Souls, Jack fights to help Leah keep her humanity while investigating possibilities to escape Death’s hold, but as old enemies plot to destroy them, and their world unravels further, can Jack protect Leah from the worst or will all his plans unravel in the end?

The second book in the Fated Eternals series, “Council of Souls” picks up right where the previous book left off and reads like a middle series books. With a contemporary setting but paranormal characters and elements, the story starts slow and only picks up the pace at the end. The romance between Jack and Leah is already established, but now undergoes a few stressors. Unfortunately, the majority of the conflict does not feel resolved and the reader is left with more questions at the end then answers. Still, the drama at the beginning provides plenty of traction for the plot and the excitement at the end of the story hints of great things for book three.
