FANTASY:  Gentry Abrams has lived in Utah quite happily until her father leaves everything behind to head to California to mine for gold. Gentry is unsure what will happen with her family, but her brother, Rooster, does have a job, and Gentry has good friends willing to help out. As Gentry waits for her father to send money to help the family, strange things keep happening. When Winn Maheux magically saves Gentry, she is entranced by how he magically appears when she needs his help. She can’t help falling for him. Still, bills are piling up, and debts are unpaid until Gentry is offered a choice: marry a man for money and stability or marry for love.

“Veins of Gold” is  a wonderfully unique story.  It moves at an easy pace and is beautifully written. Even with the magic and fantasy, it is based in a real-life place and does have the possibility of actually happening. There was one tiny plot angle that wasn’t resolved, but it never truly detracted from the story because the characters managed to develop without it. Winn, the mysterious elusive hero, is described somewhat vaguely, but that seems to fit him. The fact that he is magical makes it fun to imagine him even more. Gentry, the practical loving heroine, is easy to like. She stays true to herself and manages to choose what is best for her at the time. Readers will like Gentry for her sensible nature and her willingness to help her family. This story will definitely stay with readers long after they’ve read the last page.
