HISTORICAL:  During WWI, a soldier gives the gift of a music box to his new bride to console her while he is away at war. The music box, with its soothing melody, keeps his wife Evelyn comforted with the knowledge that one day he will return — until the military men come to her home to tell her that Jim is dead. In the box she finds a message from her husband Jim telling her to let go, and live on. When Evelyn begins to heal, she trades the music box for a cradle to hold the son Jim will never see. The husband and wife who gave the cradle to Evelyn for the music box lost their own child. The story interweaves the grief and healing process that goes on between the families touched by the music box. Thus begins the journey of the music box, the dancing ballerina and its melodious melody, and how it helps to inspire the different families it touches.

Rachelle J. Christensen has written a story that is deceptively compelling. Each of the characters throughout the novel draw the reader into their shattered lives, and the reader sees and feels how this music box interacts and weaves its magic between the dark to the light. The music box, beautifully made and lovingly given, brings hope to those that have been struck by tragedy. This is a heartfelt book, one that the reader will long remember. The ending is unforgettable…a page turner until the very end!
