Genre:
Historical

Captain Oliver Whitehouse has two goals — and neither involves rescuing a damsel in distress. He should not be interrupting years of planning to return said damsel safely to London, even if she does make him forget his past. Blake Culpepper’s hunger for adventure not only nearly caused her ruin but set a madman on her heels as well. Shadowed by scandal, she is left with no choice but to trust Oliver. As he loses his heart to the fiery miss, Oliver is faced with a choice: risk everything despite their different social standings or sail away?

A historical romance coupled with suspense and adventure“, “Blaike: Secrets Gone Askew” weaves a tale that is both heartwarming and entertaining. Although fourth in the series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. The story follows the strong-willed Blaike and the equally stubborn sea captain Oliver Whitehouse as they traverse a sea of trouble, finding — and fighting — love along the way.  That said, Oliver’s opposition to marriage despite his clear love for Blaike is as frustrating as it is tiresome. It is a plot device used in countless romances and, in a story with so much already going on, it felt unnecessary. Author Collette Cameron is a talented storyteller, creating realistic characters that drive a captivating and emotional tale.  Readers will appreciate the time-appropriate language and obvious research that went into the story. That being said, her style can be long and drawn out. Overall, the story is a must read for those who enjoy engaging historical romances.
