Widow and teacher Beth Bennett is comfortably adjusting to life without her husband and raising her teenage daughters. She also watches over her elderly neighbor, Ella Riley. She is satisfied with the life she has now made for her family until the night Rick “Sonny” Riley shows up on her doorstep, demanding the key to his mother's house. He has suddenly come home after hearing of Ella’s heart attack. Sparks start to fly when she hands him the key. How can this romance blossom when Rick is an airline pilot based in California and this is Latitude, Alabama?

“Out of Her Comfort Zone” is a sweet story of a widow having a second chance at love if only she will reach for it. Rick’s visits are well written and the emotions are plain to see. While the story is not unique, it is a typical boy meets girl next door, but this one has a twist – the boy has not been home in years. Beth’s daughters show believable emotion but lack depth. Rick’s sister, DeeAnn, lacks both depth and emotion. Ms. Gardner paints a wonderfully vivid picture of small town Americana. One can almost feel the excitement at the football game and taste Ella’s apple cobblers. Beth’s friends are well written and have that playful attitude good friends often have. “Out of Her Comfort Zone” is the second in the Forever Friends series. Come back to Latitude, Alabama and enjoy the rest.
