Who wouldn’t want to spend a week in Corsica, all expenses paid? Maeve Doherty might not. She is a spunky Irish lass who works for a hotel chain and lives paycheck to paycheck. She has to, since she’s taking care of her younger brother, who has cancer. When she discovers she’s been chosen to go on a week-long vacation with a man who some computer program has decided is her “Perfect Match,” she almost says no.

Edward Newell, a London businessman, owns a lucrative hotel chain and lives a life of luxury, flying around the world in his private jet. From the start, two facts are clear: Maeve and Edward come from two entirely different social and economic worlds, and they have one trait in common: they are both “married to their jobs,” so neither intends to marry.

With its “Bachelorette” theme, this story certainly has the potential to sweep the reader away from reality. The author’s colorful prose and detailed descriptions are delightful to read. Predictability is the main flaw of this tale, since it’s blatantly obvious from the start these two will end up together. There is little, other than their socioeconomic difference, that threatens to keep Maeve and Edward apart. Maeve’s worry about her brother’s health disappears a little too quickly, leaving the reader to wonder what happened to him. The “crisis moment” comes too late and is too weak. But the chemistry between the two and the development of Edward’s character are excellently done. This sweet romance is a quick read that takes the reader on an all-expense-paid vacation in a dreamily romantic setting.
