Running Gwel Teg, the family hotel, has worn Ellie Truman’s mom down. When she is hospitalized, Ellie puts her own work and dreams on hold to help. Unfortunately, since her father’s death two years prior, the hotel has been in decline, and bringing it back will take more money than either Ellie or her mother can afford. Reece Mitchell is staying at Gwel Teg by chance.  In the business of buying failing hotels, fixing them and reselling, Reece immediately sees the potential in Gwel Teg — he just has to convince the owner to sell. Too bad the owner’s stunning daughter keeps making Reece want to help instead!  Ellie is reluctant to commit her heart, but Reece is so charming and helpful that Ellie begins to melt. As love blooms, will they be able to revive Gwel Teg, or will all their efforts be for nothing?

A sweet contemporary romance, “The Cornish Hotel by the Sea” is a story of unexpected love.  Ellie and Reece are well-matched characters and their romance is solid, threatened only by a minor conflict dealing with secrets. The steady pace and flow also lend themselves to a good love story. However, the plot is a bit predictable, and the story lacks any unique characteristics to make it really stand out. Still, contemporary romance lovers will find plenty to enjoy about this book, from the delightful setting to the passion between the characters. Overall, this a good light read for readers looking for sweet romance on the shores of Cornwall.
