Maisy Fields has lived through a mother’s worst nightmare—the death of her children.  She has left her home in the UK to return to a vacation spot on Nags Head, North Carolina hoping to recapture some of the joy from her youth and heal her heart.  While walking along the beach, she reunites with Jarrod Steel, a crush from a vacation to this same beach as a teenager.  Some 15 years later, the chemistry that sparked when they were teens has now fully ignited into adult passion. To Jarrod, Maisy is his everything. Can he help her heal her heart so a new love can grow?

Dilys Carnie has painted a very real and all-encompassing portrait of a mother’s heartbreak in Maisy.  Her grief is deeper and more raw than is normally encountered in a romance novel. Jarrod is an incredibly empathetic character and wants nothing more than to help Maisy heal and be happy.  Maisy, however, feels tremendous guilt when she experiences happiness which creates a cycle of boomeranging emotions that can leave the reader feeling whiplashed and frustrated. Maisy’s sadness is so all-encompassing that it makes all other emotions between her and Jarrod pale in comparison.  Standing in stark contrast to the emotional grayness of the story is the physical chemistry between Maisy and Jarrod which explodes in a red-hot erotic passion that lights the pages on fire.
