Full disclosure: the following stems from a conversation I had with my friend, Ann Gimpel, a Best Selling Author of Dark Urban Fantasy.The conversation went something like this: Ann: “I need to add keywords to my book covers.”
Me: “Why?” Quietly grumbling about the latest marketing craze that won’t make much of a difference in sales and will go away next week as all trends do. Ann: “So that Amazon’s search algorithm will find my books.” Me: “….” Light bulbs turning on. See the thing is, we forgot most online book sellers are basically giant search engines. Search engines that need words (keywords) in order to deliver results.
