Fantasy Romance or Romantic Fantasy?

Fantasy and Romance: just like strawberries and chocolate, bread and cheese, or peanut butter and jelly, they're the perfect pairing!
What could be more wonderful than a story set in a fantastical realm, filled with colorful people and locations, intrigue, mystery, action, heroism, perhaps a bit of magic, and romance to top it all off? It pairs the breathtaking uniqueness of Fantasy with the heart-warming, smile-inducing happiness of a good Romance.
Romance exists in every great Fantasy novel:

Aragorn and Arwen from “Lord of the Rings”
Locke Lamora and Sabetha from “The Gentlemen Bastards”
Princess Buttercup and Wesley from “The Princess Bride”

Romance may either be a sub-plot of a Fantasy novel, or it may be the driving force behind the story. Romantic Fantasy and Fantasy Romance both utilize romance as an important element. In fact, they're so similar that the terms "Fantasy Romance" and "Romantic Fantasy" are used interchangeably for Fantasy stories heavy on the Romance. However, they are not quite the same thing!
