An Escape From Reality

Everyone has their favorite place to escape to—their hideaway from reality. For some, it’s the beach, others the mountains, and for many of us it’s just somewhere quiet, where we can get away from everyday stress. After I started writing and doing graphic art, I discovered a lot of people find their bliss in a bookstore. Their getaway is within the pages of a story and they are always searching for that perfect book. It should be one that takes them to a different reality—away from the kids, laundry, dishes, messy floors, cat hair everywhere, and all the other dreamy things that fill a domestic goddess’s days. You may ask why a bookstore should be a getaway, and it’s a good question. Some people go to bookstores for the experience. Others for the smell of fresh books lingering in the air (and yes that is a thing). Sometimes there are events for new releases of major works from a popular author, and if you’re a die-hard fan, you can dress up in costume and wait for midnight, when terrified clerks emerge from stockrooms with boxes of hard-covered treasure, praying they’ll survive the human tidal wave that probably resembles something a rock star sees from the stage of a concert hall. Okay, that was slightly exaggerated, but then again, knowing a few Harry Potter fans...maybe not so much.
