What Makes a Cowboy Irresistable?!

Recently, I strayed from my genre of Romantic Comedy to take a stab at writing in the Western arena. It may seem like a huge leap…except that I, like so many others, was raised on John Wayne, Bonanza, The Virginian, The Rifleman, and such. If Dad was watching the television…chances are it was a Western. I learned to ride a horse at the age of 10, when my parents purchased a plot of land in the Crystal Falls Association. I rode every chance I got. My love of horses started young and never diminished. A few years later, our family was invited to the Salinas Rodeo with some friends to watch their son participate in the events of Bucking Broncs, Calf Roping, and Bull Riding. It was my first time at a rodeo and I was hooked! What’s not to like…guys in jeans, chaps, boots, hats, with swaggers and smiles that melt your heart?
So, what makes people love the events of the rodeo so much? Maybe it’s the tenacity these men have to get the living daylights knocked out of them only to go back for more, ultimately getting better, stronger, and more agile.
