Archetyping: The Free Spirit

Sofia
St. Angeles

The older I get, the more I look forward to becoming an eccentric aunt. You know, the kind who dresses in tie-dyed t-shirts, tutus, rainbow striped socks, and high-top Chucks. Or, maybe the kind who wears one of those flowy muumuu-like dresses with a big hat and tons of chunky jewelry. Gena Rowland’s role in “Hope Floats” comes to mind. Yeah, I think I’d like that. Alas, I am not a Free Spirit. (And yet, I vow to turn pirouettes in my kitchen with my grandchildren someday!) I do envy the Free Spirits, though. Their love of life, their uninhibited nature, their natural curiosity, their perpetual joy...yep, definitely enviable.Though sometimes doe-eyed and ditzy, the Free Spirit is chatty and fun to be around. She doesn’t take life too seriously, and if she ever gets down, it’s never too long before she’s back up to her normal, cheery self. Some perceive her as air-headed, but her ingenuity and creativity have no limits. So, if you’re looking to write an upbeat, lighthearted heroine, the Free Spirit’s your gal!
